You came right out of nowhere Another Friday night, Another nickname for a song. But something seemed to happen In just a pair of lines, Like it was waiting all along. I don’t know what real life is Or what it’s supposed to be. I only know how you make me feel And that’s real enough for me. It isn’t ones and zeros A whisper to a screen, The sound of drums from you to me. But when we’re both together It’s like we’re friends forever Some perfect state beneath a tree. I don’t know what real life is Or what it’s supposed to be. I only know how you make me feel And that’s real enough for me.

Doin' Time 03:17
I punch the clock everyday right at nine And the dollar that I’m sweating for spends like a dime. And even when I’m home I’m working overtime. My daddy always warned me but I never thought they’d own me. Now I do the commute in my three-piece suit, With a laptop open, on the cell phone talking, And I wish I could find a way out of this mine. Even though I’m on the outside I’m still doing… Doin’ time, Yeah I’m doin’ time. I’m going out of my mind. Yeah I’m doin’ time. Yeah the American dream has turned into a nightmare. When they asked me, who wants to be a millionaire? I never knew my nervous system wasn’t there. Now the boss is trying to phone me, Wanna tell him, you don’t own me. But I’ll zip it up and stick it in my gut, ‘Cause I must stay focused on the Christmas bonus, And I can’t take the time to let my mind unwind. Though I’ve a condo at the shoreline I’m still doing… Doin’ time, Yeah I’m doin’ time. I’m going out of my mind. Yeah I’m doin’ time. Babe I just can’t wait to see your face At the end of a long hard day, ‘Cause when you look in my eyes I know I’m alive. It reminds me why I gotta hold on Baby come what may. I’m just doin’ time (he’s just doin’ time) Yeah, I’m doin’ time (he’s just doin’ time) I’m going out of my mind (he’s going out of his mind) Yeah, I’m doing time

You know I feel like something new. Something that will turn me ‘round from where I’m going to. I don’t know where it’s coming from Or what it’s gonna do. I only know I feel like something new. You know I feel like something new. I looked in my rear mirror And I saw that it was you. You didn’t have to say a word It’s not as if you could, And now you’ve made me feel like something new. It wasn’t very long ago That you and I could ever know That we would be together like we were before, And now that you’ve got everything You only ask for more. You know I feel like something new I know that it sounds corny But it isn’t ‘cause it’s true It’s funny how you’ll meet someone You know you always knew And something old is also something new. And now you’ve made me feel like something new.

How can I believe what you are telling me? How can I believe what you might say? When I know you're gonna say you're with me And then turn the other way? Why can't you just look me straight in the eyes? Why can't anybody look me in the eyes? All your lies are filling me. Funny how it always has to be this way, I turn for just a second and you're gone. Is it really all that hard to tell me Who's side are you on? Why can't you just look me straight in the eyes? Why can't anybody look me in the eyes? All your lies are filling me, and they’re killing me. Pretty soon the world is gonna knock you down And you'll be on your own. Why can't you just look me straight in the eyes? Why can't anybody look me in the eyes? All your lies are filling me, and they’re killing me.

You can call me when you’re in a better humor. You can call me when you realize what you’ve done. It isn’t funny how you make a scratch a tumor. You can blame me, but I'm not the only one. You can tell me all the times you really were sorry, And I know the way you grind your teeth at night. I know you mean it, but you do what you want to do anyway, Then you apologize and you think that makes things right. I told you that I’d be myself, And that’s the way I’ve been, But you never try be yourself at all. You'd rather look for a shadow where no one’s been, Find a hole and crawl right in. I told you that I’m just myself, The way I’ve always been, But you never seem to be yourself at all. You'd rather look for a shadow where no one’s been, Aim at a target that you can pin, Find a hole and crawl right in, But if that's your answer you’ll fall right in. You should call me ‘cause I know that you really want to And to tell the truth, I really wish you would. You know it kills me, when I see all these stupid things haunt you. It’s still just me, and I’ve always understood.

Well, I’m going back to España, Days on the beach and nights in the city. And when I get there I don’t wanna Have all the girls think I’m just a guiri. If you wanna know what I mean I’m gonna tell you how Just grab a seat at the end of the bar And buy me another Mahou. When I’m lost in the conversation, And I don’t know what to say, I just nod my head and I tell them Mola, guay, ok. Well, I’m walking through Malasaña And I got a beer and an Española, Who only speaks Castellano, But she thought I was cool when I just said hola. I learn the phrases and I pick the best ones From what I hear and read And even though I don’t know what I’m saying, They think I’m from Valladolid. When I’m lost in the conversation, And I don’t know what to say, I just nod my head and I tell them Mola, guay, ok. I’ve got my Collins de bolsillo, But it doesn’t tell me what to say. So I nod my head and I tell them Mola, guay, ok.

Little girl blue when you blow your horn, Your daddy always listens, but your mommy’s bored. I know, oh yes I know. You’re so self-righteous everyday. What you preach against you will do the same. I know, oh yes I know You always stick your knife right in the vein, dig it all the way in. Never you think about the price you’ll pay cause you’re just playing. Don’t they apply to you? Yeah, all the rules you’re holding to be true Yeah who’s fooling who? My little girl blue. Little girl blue when you blow your horn I’m nodding yes to what I’d rather ignore, I know, oh yes I know. Lack of motivation to take a stand Is not a good reason to remain your man, I know, oh yes I know. But I still manage getting what I need by planting seeds And watching them germinate till you believe they’re your ideas, yeah You’re just a child it’s true, Even though you’re pushing forty-two. Yeah who’s fooling who? My little girl blue. And I’ll give you credit where credit is due And I like to think you’d do the same for me As I’d do for you But I’ll never know yeah, know the truth. You’re just a child it’s true, Even though you’re pushing forty-two. Yeah, who’s fooling who? My little girl blue.

It didn’t take long after you didn’t win Proclaiming yourself the new Napoleon Cowboy George on his throne. Shooting off your guns and your mouth on the ranch Pissing off the world from Mozambique to France. Now we’re stuck on our own. So what can you do—now your popularity’s falling Find an enemy you can beat and come a-calling. People eat what’s on their plate Even if it’s only lies Just be sure to fill them up with freedom fries. You didn’t need new clothes ‘cause you’re wearing the flag You figured by now the election’s in the bag Everything else is forgotten. It didn’t work out quite the way you planned Mission accomplished? I don’t understand. And you never mention Bin Laden. And oh, have you heard? No word Of weapons of mass destruction As Cheney’s pals start the Iraqi reconstruction And now we’re stuck with the bill As our good friend Kim Jong Il Builds another nuke out there in North Korea. Lololololololo—The Emperor strikes out again Lololololololo—The Emperor strikes out again (ah, ah, Señor Aznar, ah ah, Mr. Blair)

Hey there Nessy stop looking so sad. You know the fall will be here soon. And the temperatures will drop. The humidity will stop. New York is such a lonely place when you’re stuck inside a room. But until then Friedrich can lend His helping hand to keep us cool. But despite the burning heat The city never sleeps. Soon the buildings rising up will be blocking out the moon. Friday night when the whistle blows We’re standing alone. The city streets are echoing Where has everybody gone? They’ve left on a weekend exodus, For the townships of Bridgehampton, south, east and west. Plunging the city in a state of emptiness. We’re stuck in New York in the summertime. Hey sweet Nessy, take hold of my hand, Tonight we’re dining at Nobu. And don’t be so surprised, If there ain’t no wait in line, And the maitre-d’s now treating us like a duchess and a duke. Speeding up Sixth avenue We jump the yellow lights. She whispers softly in my ear This feels like paradise. ‘Cause they’ve left on a weekend exodus, For the townships of Bridgehampton, south, east and west. Nessy we can breath now despite the mugginess. We’re stuck in New York in the summertime. You know Nessy it’s what I always had in mind. They’re returning the city to a state of craziness A New York summer Sunday afternoon. Why are they always coming back so soon? Hey there Nessy stop looking so sad.

It’s funny what people will leave behind Bullets and babies If you drained Victoria Lake you'd find Bullets and babies It's funny what people will leave behind. Look out your window You won't see what you think you see You just imagine the way that you wanted it to be. Bullets and babies It's funny what people will leave behind. No one told me it could get like this Now I’m left to wonder where the action is Look in your mirror Things are closer than they appear You never notice Until they get right up on your rear. No one told me I could feel like this Now I’m left to wonder what the answer is Bullets and babies If you drained Veronica Lake you'd find Bullets and babies It's funny what people will leave behind.

Yeah you’re out on the mat And you’re down for the count. You’re pleading for help But they shut you out. And tell you you’re free To be who you want to be. You’ll get the answer you see By just looking at me. So you’re boarding the Hudson line. You’re taking one last ride, ‘Til the train conductor chimes his final cry. Yeah, it’s Willoughby, it’s Willoughby station, Last stop is Willoughby in your imagination. It’s Willoughby, it’s Willoughby station, You’re jumping this train at Willoughby station. Are you just half a man? ‘Cause it’s all you can stand. You can’t take anymore But they don’t understand. What’s wrong becomes right When you’re down in the fight. The choices you make become so black and white. Yeah the train is slowing down. It’s pulling into town. The conductor’s smile should really be upside down. Yeah it’s Willoughby, it’s Willoughby station. The next stop is Willoughby and final destination. Is Willoughby, it’s Willoughby station. You’re jumping this train at Willoughby station. Sleeping late as long as you please, With no more deadlines to worry. You’re gonna spend your time Sipping beer and composing rhymes, While shooting the back nine, fore… Another sunny day, you just want to play They won’t let you play, does it matter anyway? ‘Cause your getting off at Willoughby Station (doesn’t matter anyway) (next stop) ‘Cause your getting off at Willoughby Station (doesn’t matter anyway) (next stop)

Sometimes a line’s connected Before you made the call. And the minute that you pick it up It’s like you never hung up at all. I’ll try hard to remember, But I know I won’t forget, A girl I’ve always known Is a girl I’ve never met. It isn’t accidental And right away you know. It’s like finding something that you lost A thousand years or even lives ago. I’ll try hard to remember But I know I won’t forget A girl I’ve always known Is a girl I’ve never met. I guess I’ve always wondered How you end up where you are Why I am here, and you are there And we start out from afar. There must be something pulling And it knows before we do The people that we’ve loved before And it led me back to you. I’ll try hard to remember But I know I won’t forget A girl I’ve always known Is a girl I’ve never met.
